Rachel Baptist Church History
The Rachel Baptist Mission began services in 1980 in a donated mobile home. Pastor Sam Stanton traveled 100 miles from Berean Baptist Church in the County Seat of Pioche on Sunday afternoons to conduct services.
In 1995 the church moved into a permanent building at the same site (not far from the Senior Center Building). Rachel Baptist is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention, and is the only church of any kind within 50 miles of the village.
The church depended on pastors willing to travel in on Sundays (mostly in the afternoon) for the first 20 years. In the Summer of 2001 the church was forced to close its doors for lack of a pastor.
In September of 2004 Robert and Joann Kenneston of Boulder City, Nevada discovered the abandoned building, and re-opened it for 11am Sunday Services. The building was re-modeled and Sunday services have continued uninterrupted since then.
Rachel Baptist Church welcomes everyone. Over the years it has provided a home for numerous weddings, funerals and baptisms.
The church is still classified as a "Mission," which means, among other things, that the weekly offering is not enough to support the church. It survives with the help of supporters from all over the country.
Anyone who is interested in being a part of this church is invited to attend and to support us with prayers and donations.
